Hello from St. Paul,

Lawmakers have returned to the State Capitol as the 2014 legislative session is now underway. I will continue to serve on the following committees this year: Environment, Natural Resources, and Agriculture Finance, Environment and Natural Resources Policy, and Ways and Means.

Governor Dayton said he wants this to be the unsession, where the Legislature would focus on eliminating unnecessary or redundant laws. Whether that happens remains to be seen, but it’s clear legislative leadership has other priorities as well this session, including debates that center on raising the minimum wage and approving a bonding bill that will fund construction projects across the state. There will also be discussions about whether to repeal any of the tax increases legislative Democrats and Governor Dayton signed into law last session.

In other words, expect plenty of news from the Capitol this year even though the actual session will only last about two and a half months.

Also, be sure to watch for my annual session survey in your mailbox! It asks your opinion on issues such as whether Minnesota should have Sunday liquor sales or if it should create beverage container deposits. The survey was mailed last week, so it should be arriving soon if it hasn’t already. If you do not receive a survey and would like to complete one, please call 651-296-3135 to reach my office, or send me an email at and I will have one mailed to you.

Keep in touch,
