My Fellow Republicans,

First and foremost, I want to thank each of you and all our candidates, activists and supporters across the state that poured their hearts into this election. Your help and your unyielding enthusiasm boosted support for Republicans in Minnesota and I greatly appreciate your efforts.

We regained the majority in the Minnesota House, a critical victory! With a substantial pickup of 11 seats, Republicans now have a 72 – 62 advantage. We also held the open 6th Congressional District seat being vacated by Michelle Bachmann with Tom Emmer’s victory, and both John Kline in the 2nd and Erik Paulsen in the 3rd posted strong victories. Congratulations to all of you who were all-in to achieve these victories!

Republicans served notice that the 7th and 8th Congressional Districts will eventually end up in the GOP column. Great races by Stewart Mills and Torrey Westrom against a previously unseen onslaught of money give us great confidence that these districts are future gains for us.

And of course, the big news nationally was gaining a Republican majority in the U.S. Senate, and growing our Republican majority in the U.S. House. Finally, a Republican vision for our country can be clearly contrasted with President Obama’s, without Harry Reid ignoring the issues.

Unfortunately, the national wave rebuking President Obama didn’t make it to Minnesota, with Al Franken and Mark Dayton holding their seats. Incumbents once again held 90% of their seats across the country, and without the national groups targeting Minnesota’s races, these well-funded Democrat incumbents prevailed. Mike McFadden and Jeff Johnson, outspent 5 to 1 and 3 to 1 respectively, are to be congratulated for their admirable campaigns as are every one of you who gave so much to those efforts!

Our State Party made significant advances in both finances and operations even as we focused on campaigns, and we now have the foundational infrastructure we need to compete in the future. The GOP enterprise came together to win the House here in Minnesota, and nationally it did the same for the Senate. We have the model to replicate for future races.

Building a competitive funding capability, growing our field operation to match the Democrats, delivering an inspiring vision for the future, and identifying and developing great candidates as we move forward will give us the ability to compete for the long haul. Our Solution Center will prove we are the party of ideas, and our outreach will get us in front of Minnesotans again to show them we are right for them.

We are in the middle of a long road to return Minnesota to its civic-minded conservative roots. We made a solid gain in 2014. And while the goal is always to win everything, instead of getting out of the hole, we are now focused on the future with an eye toward 2016. As a Party we stand strong for the future of our state and our country. We are and will always be on the side of the people. Thank you again for all you do!

Regards,
Keith Downey
