Hello from the State Capitol,

With the holidays just around the corner, I’ve had some opportunities recently to join with many others to help out our neighbors in need.

Last week I helped out at an Empty Bowls event to benefit Feed my Starving Children and South Washington County CARES at Lake Middle School in Woodbury. I worked with State Representative Keith Franke, South Washington County School Board member Ron Kath, and St. Paul Park Mayor Sandi Dingle, among many others, at the event, serving soup and bread that had been donated by local restaurants to school kids and their families.

On Sunday, I also helped bag groceries at the Cub Foods store in Cottage Grove for the Holiday Train.

As many of you know the CP Holiday Train helps raise money and collects food for local food banks across the U.S. and Canada, and has become a very popular event in both Cottage Grove and Hastings every December. This year the train will stop in Hastings on Friday, December 8th and in Cottage Grove the next night, Saturday, December 9th.

A number of home-schooled students visited the Capitol last week, including several from Hastings, taking part in a tour and learning more about state government. I was able to visit with them in the House chamber and share some Capitol experiences.

Finally, the time has arrived to once again give thanks for the many blessings we’ve been given. As you celebrate this Thanksgiving, I hope you can do it in the comfort of friends and family. It is an honor to serve as your voice in the Minnesota House, and I remain truly thankful for the support you’ve given me over this past year.

On Thursday morning, many of you will participate in the Hale to the Bird 5K in Cottage Grove which raises funds for Friends In Need Food Shelf or Gobble Gait in Hastings to benefit Hastings Family Service. These events are a great way to start your Thanksgiving Day. My wife Dawn and I participated in Hale to the Bird last year and we’ll be at Gobble Gait this year. I hope to see you there.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend,
Tony

Dear Neighbors,

Licensing Issues

If you’ve experienced headaches transferring a car title or renewing your tabs, you’re not alone. Since July, the state’s new licensing system, MNLARS, has caused a number of problems for customers. It’s frustrating because it’s clear MNLARS shouldn’t have been rolled out if it wasn’t ready for efficient use.

A good example of the problems are shown through the troubles facing East Side Auto in St. Paul Park. Here’s a good story about the issues, and how the problems don’t seem to be getting better even three months in.

If you’re continuing to have issues, please contact my office, or share your experience at http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/DMV/Comment.

Local Elections

Believe it not, it’s election season. It may be hard to know since there’s not hours of commercials on TV, but Tuesday, November 7 is Election Day 2017. It’s an off-year which means it’s mainly local issues on the ballot. In our area, South Washington County Schools has three questions on the ballot, and you can learn more about them here.

It’s important to know this is the most local type of election we have. No matter what side of the issue you’re on, it’ll have a direct impact on our local residents. Please take time on Tuesday to make your voice heard, and vote in this year’s election.

Please click here to find out where you’re supposed to vote. It may or may not be different than even-years, so please check before heading out.

Please Contact Me

As always, please call or email my office if you ever need anything. I’m usually back in the district and would love to schedule a meeting. Just give me a call and we’ll set something up.

Enjoy your weekend,
Keith
