Capitol Update from HD54B Representative Denny McNamara

Representative Denny McNamara

By Rep. Denny McNamara, 1/11/2013

Hello from St. Paul,

The Minnesota Legislature is once again open for business, as representatives and senators were sworn into office on January 8. It remains such an honor to fight for your interests in the Minnesota House, and I truly look forward to representing your interests again for the next two years.

This year, I will serve as the Republican Lead on the Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture Finance Committee, and will also serve on the Environment and Natural Resources Policy and Ways and Means committees.

The biggest issue of the year will be solving our projected budget deficit. The current projection sits at $1.1 billion, but that number will rise or fall after state economists release their February economic forecast.

Over the past two years, lawmakers did a great job of turning the state’s financial problems around, and I’m hopeful Democrats will follow our lead and do things this session that will create more jobs and keep our economy moving forward.

In the Environment and Natural Resources Committees, I expect we’ll address a number of issues, including the spread of invasive Asian carp into the Upper Mississippi River basin as well as continued improvements to the Vermillion Highlands Wildlife Management Area in nearby Empire Township.

I also wanted to let you know about the upcoming town meetings I will be holding with Senator Sieben. The first will take place in Cottage Grove on Thursday, January 24 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Cottage Grove City Hall. We will be joined at this event by Representative Dan Schoen as well.

The second gathering will take place in Hastings on Thursday, January 31 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Hastings City Hall. I’m hopeful you can take time to join us and make your voice heard.

As always, I welcome and encourage your feedback and input. Contact me any time at 437-2597 or by email at rep.denny.mcnamara@house.mn and share your concerns

Keep in touch,
Denny

BPOU Full Committee Meeting on Mon, Jan 7

SD54 Republicans Full Committee Members:

A special meeting of the SD 54 Full Committee will be held at 7:00 pm on Monday, January 7, at the Point Restaurant to consider planning activities necessary for the SD Convention to be held on 2 February. This is an opportunity to get involved in the formulation of committee work and necessary policies. This special meeting was scheduled during the December Executive committee Meeting.

Mark Westphal, Chair of Second Congressional District, has consented to join us to provide additional guidance during our planning process. He especially wants us to be successful as we host CD2 on March 2nd.

Tentative Committees formed for our convention include:

Constitution

Rules

Credentials

Parliamentarian

Sgt @ Arms

Convention Chair

Convention Secretary

Search Committee

The above committees are tentative. Some will need more members, eg. Search Committee. We plan to finalize them and help get them organized and plan election of SD officers and State Central Delegates.

A final Agenda will be sent out prior to the meeting.
