Happy Birthday! Derrick Lehrke formally files to run for House of Representatives district 54A

Derrick Lehrke for Minnesota House District 54A

Derrick Lehrke

Yesterday, on his birthday, Derrick Lehrke formally filed to run for Minnesota House of Representatives District 54A. He issued the following statement:

“I am excited to announce today, my birthday, that I have officially filed to run for the House of Representatives for District 54A. While 54A is similar in geography to the old 57A district, due to redistricting from the 2010 census, 54A is a brand new district. My first mission is to begin the process of personally introducing myself to each and every citizen of the district. I suspect at some point this summer you will see me going door to door in your neighborhood; I want to hear from you! Every citizen’s input is important to me. I want to represent the entire district, and in order to do that most effectively I need to hear your voice.

As a member of the Cottage Grove City Council I have shown I will stand up for my constituents to make sure their voice is heard. In our current political climate, compromise has become a dirty word and understanding all sides of the many issues has become unpopular. I will lead by example. I will listen to all citizens concerns, and I will not be afraid to stand up to big special interests to fight for what is best for the citizens of 54A. Again, I am excited to formally file my candidacy for House Rep 54A. I invite voters to call me at 651-459-3932, email at Derrick@Vote4Derrick.com. You can also find me on Facebook and Twitter. I look forward to meeting each and every one of you over the coming months.”

District 54A is left open by retiring first term legislator John Kriesel. 54A includes Cottage Grove, Newport, St. Paul Park, Grey Cloud Island and South St. Paul.

Chairman Mike Fouts comments on State Convention

By Mike Fouts, SD54 Republicans BPOU Chair
5/20/2012

Howdy, all…Thought I’d finally make an appearance and thank EVERYBODY who came out to the State Convention this weekend. Personally, I am excited about the passion, organization, and enthusiasm brought to the convention by the Liberty/Ron Paul/Whatever You Want to Call Them group of activists. For years we have been trying to figure out how to reach this demographic and, now that they have shown up, I have every intention of welcoming them.

With all of the mainstream media focusing on some alleged “split” or “schism” in the Republican Party, I have to say that I have seen absolutely NO evidence of this in our BPOU. While there is always some amount of trepidation when change occurs in an organization, change is essential to survival. Working with the newest participants in the BPOU, I can assure everybody that ALL of us our hard at work and committed to getting Derrick Lehrke, Janis Quinlan, and Denny McNamara elected locally, in addition to supporting our candidates for federal office.

We have several exciting ideas in the making, and I look forward to sharing them with all of you as they come closer to fruition.

Regards,
Mike
